Concocting Poison Arrows

Mixing arrow poison in the Mentawai community is their routine. Because their daily activity is laboring in the forest for their daily needs. Not everyone who has expertise in concocting, there is a combination of chilies and tubas that have standards so that the raun is mixed and lasts a long time.

The ingredients for concocting poison are yeast stems, laingik roots (tubal roots), chilies, weathered bark, bagglau (galangal). These materials are processed using a number of tools such as pepeccle (wooden tongs), leccu (rattan bracelet), gigiok (shredder from ruyung branch thorns), lulak (traditional Mentawai tray), tutuddu (wooden stacking tool), and shells where to collect arrow poison liquid.

To become arrow poison, initially the raggi bark is peeled with a machete, after that the peeled skin is then shredded until smooth, the next herb galangal is grated until smooth and combined with the yeast bark, if it is smooth cayenne pepper that has been provided previously is also grated in the same container.
