Making Kabit (Traditional Clothing)

Different regions have different traditions and cultures, the same as traditional clothing, each region has a diversity and uniqueness of traditional forms of wear. The Mentawai area has traditional clothing for men, which is made of selected bark.

This kabit was worn by Sikerei to cover the lower body. So minimal without thread seams. The Mentawai tribe does not know weaving techniques, they use plants as body coverings. The frond of banana leaves is used by women to cover the lower body by stringing it together like a skirt. While the upper part uses tubers knitted like clothes.
