Padang State University Geography students who passed the National Ormawa PPK from 4 programs are cultivating honey bees. On Monday 3 October 2022, the Honey Bee Cultivation Garden was inaugurated through the Community Empowerment Program in Muara Sikabaluan Village, Mentawai Islands Regency.

Bose Hamlet, Muara Sikabaluan Village, Mentawai Islands is one of the hamlets that has the potential for honey bees to be developed, considering that the potential for mangrove forests and mixed gardens in this hamlet is very abundant. This activity is in collaboration with the Indonesian Honey Bee Inspirator West Sumatra Region.

The concept applied in this village community empowerment program is preserving the forest environment. Agroforestry is forest management in the form of a cropping system that combines forestry, agricultural and livestock activities to achieve optimal land use. There is a combination in agroforestry between bees and trees called apiculture. Honey bee cultivation can be used as an effort to rehabilitate forest areas. Apart from that, cultivating honey bees can also be an alternative livelihood for the community. Honey bee cultivation activities can attract an active role from the community in preserving the forest environment
