Turuk (dance) laggai is a picture of natural life that is carefully observed and studied for generations. Turuk laggai is basically imitating the behavior of animals that are often found in the nature where they live. Usually the behavior of these animals is noticed when they go hunting and work on tinungglu or fields.

After careful and long-lasting observation, the results of the observation were poured into the form of dance (turuk) in various forms of movement or uliat which were displayed as entertainment at various traditional parties in Mentawai. This closeness to nature is what influences all Mentawai behavior, including dance.
