Saribu Gonjong Tourism Village – SARUGO is located in the Sungai Dadok Village/Region, Koto Tinggi District, Gunuang Omeh Subdistrict, Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province.
The presence of Sarugo Village coincided with the arrival of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) students from Muhammadiyah University of West Sumatra in August 2019 in this area. Subsequently, students, together with a tourism awareness group and all components of the community, moved forward with the support of the Nagari, Subdistrict, Regency, and Province governments, officially launching the Sungai Dadok Region as a Tourism Village called Saribu Gonjong – Sarugo.
Sarugo Village is located in the highlands of the Barisan Mountain range, surrounded by citrus plantations famous for Siam Gunuang Omeh Orange (Jesigo). In addition, this area, formerly known as Mudiak Dadok, a hidden hamlet to the north, was once part of the base for the struggle of the Emergency Government of the Republic of Indonesia (PDRI) and served as the capital of the Republic of Indonesia during the PDRI government (1948-1949), precisely in Kototinggi.
During its journey, Sarugo Village collectively participated in the Pesona Indonesia Awards in 2020 and emerged as the 2nd place winner in the Popular Traditional Village category. In 2021, the Sarugo tourism awareness group also participated in the West Sumatra pokdarwis competition and emerged as the best pokdarwis in West Sumatra in 2021. Additionally, in the same year, they made it to the top 50 in the ADWI 2021 ranking, securing the 4th position in the homestay category.
